Kosher Senior Cafés

Isolated seniors in our community often find it difficult to make or buy nutritious meals. They may also lack meaningful social interaction, which has been shown to improve quality of life and even extend lifespans. JCS’s Kosher Senior Cafés are designed to meet both needs.

A Gathering Place for Food and Fun

The Kosher Senior Cafés in Providence and Cranston offer delicious kosher lunches and an opportunity to socialize for older adults and those with disabilities. Activities and entertainment contribute to the fun social atmosphere, drawing participants into a vibrant community.

Suggested Donation of $3.00

Who Can Come?

All seniors age 60 and older, as well as younger adults with a disability, are eligible to dine at the Kosher Senior Cafés. Other adults may also participate for a higher contribution (see below). Meals are provided by Ahava, a local kosher catering company.

The Kosher Senior Cafés are part of Jewish Collaborative Services’ kosher nutrition program. For those who are unable to travel, JCS also offers Kosher Meals on Wheels.

Reservations and Costs

Reservations are required two days in advance for meals. There is a suggested donation of $3 per meal for eligible adults to cover some costs of the café. Non-eligible adults may purchase a meal for $6.50. There is no charge for scheduled social activities.

All donations are made anonymously, and no eligible participants are turned away if they are unable to give a donation. Generous contributions from the Jewish Alliance of Greater Rhode Island and individual donors help keep the costs of this program minimal.

Transportation

Transportation to and from each site may be available for local residents for a small fee. Diners eligible for transportation include those living in Providence or Pawtucket (for the Providence café) and those living in Warwick or Cranston (for the Cranston café).

To make a reservation, or to find out more about the cafés, including transportation, contact Neal Drobnis at (401) 421-4111 x 107 or neal@jfsri.org.
