A wedding with no guests is simply an elopement, but a wedding welcoming the entire community is a “must attend” celebration! This wedding, representing the marriage of two esteemed organizations, Jewish Family Service of RI (JFS) and Jewish Seniors Agency RI (JSA), is scheduled for Sunday, May 5th, at 5:30 pm at the Marriott Hotel, One Orms Street, Providence. Don some festive attire- including your dance shoes- and get ready for a fun evening of celebration!
Wedding guests are encouraged to support JCS’s $4 million Past, Present, Future Campaign. Individuals or families who commit to sponsorships at designated levels will be recognized in our online tribute book and at the wedding. The entire community is invited to attend this wedding, which costs $150 per person; reservations and payment must be made by April 24th on the event website. Guests will enjoy delicious food stations. Wonderful kosher options will also be available. Music Express will fill the room and capture guests with their photo booth as this auspicious occasion is celebrated.
While a traditional wedding recognizes and honors those who play key roles- the groom’s and bride’s parents, grandparents, etc., this wedding will honor six individuals who were instrumental in forming JCS as members of the Partnership Committee. These individuals, all members of the inaugural JCS Board of Directors, are, in alphabetical order: Marisa Garber, Amanda Isenberg, Myrna Levine, Richard Licht, Jeff Padwa and Mindy Stone. In addition, we look forward to awarding The Maurice Glicksman Leadership Award to Vince Mor and The Ruth and W. Irving Wolf Jr. Award for Multigenerational Philanthropy to the Isenberg Family. Each of these honorees have worked tirelessly to preserve and protect the best of JFS and JSA and now JCS. We wish them a collective yasher koach (may they have strength)!
For decades, JFS and JSA provided essential services to all in need, from infants to elders. With this marriage, we know that JCS, standing on the shoulders of those who came before, will build upon and expand that sterling foundation of services that upholds the values that define the JCS mission and continues to support those in need.
It’s particularly fitting that the much-loved Rabbi Leslie Y. Gutterman, Rabbi Emeritus of Temple Beth-El, will officiate at the ceremony. During his tenure as Temple Beth-El’s senior rabbi, Rabbi Gutterman officiated at countless marriages, which have led to the creation of countless families who have enriched our RI community. Too, Rabbi Gutterman’s wife, Julie Claire Gutterman, of blessed memory, served as Director of Professional Services at JFS for several years before her untimely death in 1999. JFS staff embraced both Les and Julie as members of the family, so we are particularly grateful that Rabbi Gutterman, a past president of the JFS Board of Directors, will serve as the officiating rabbi.
Like all joyful, life cycle events, weddings have many supporting players on whom they rely to make the occasion seamless. For this wedding, Event Committee Chair Sharon Sock, and Host committee Co-Chairs Peri Aptaker and Robert Lieberman and Judy and Arthur Robbins, and their committee members along with JCS Development Committee Chair, Elisa Heath and JCS Director of Major Gifts Sara Ades Goodwin, all deserve a hearty “Mazel Tov”. We hope to see you under the Chuppah!
