Susan Bazar

Executive Director of Shalom and Shalom II

For the past five years, she has served as Chief of Administration & Strategy of Jewish Collaborative Services (JCS), the management agent of Shalom and Shalom II.  Prior to that position, she enjoyed a longstanding tenure as a Board member of Jewish Seniors Agency (JSA) and later served as Board of Trustees President.  Serving in these capacities, she has become accustomed to Shalom operations and has marveled at its pristine reputation as a sterling HUD community both statewide and nationally.  Susan is now the Executive Director of Shalom and Shalom II.

With a background in community health, advocacy, and business strategy, Susan brings a wealth of experience in navigating complex systems to meet individual and community needs. Her experience with JCS dates back to 2004, when she became a member of the Board of Trustees of JSARI. She served in that role for 12 years, including 3 years as Board President, before being named Executive Director in 2016. As Executive Director, she helped oversee the union between JSARI and JFSRI into the combined Jewish Collaborative Services.

Susan’s community work includes serving as the Secretary of the Miriam Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees, the Gala Chair for the Miriam Hospital Foundation, and Chair of the Irving Sigal Memorial Golf Tournament, among other positions. She is passionate about the community and honors her parents’ legacy with service.

Prior to her work with JCS and JSARI, Susan was a founding partner in a medical claims advocacy company that helped clients in Rhode Island resolve reimbursement issues. She has a BA in sociology from Tufts University and a certificate degree in community health.
